This is an area of law which could be of crucial importance
in respect of a member's ability to retain employment and obtain future employment, not to mention the cost and payment of fines, and in more serious cases deprivation of liberty with consequent loss of job.
The areas covered will be:-
1. Police Investigations & Persons' Rights
2. District Sheriff & High Court proceedings
3. Breach of the Peace
4. Road Traffic Offences
5. Assaults
6. Custodial Matters
There is a 24 hour legal advice line available for advising
on criminal matters and this can be accessed on
0141 950 1441. This will be advantageous to the member
if they or a member of their family are being interviewed
or held by the police in custody.
In addition to free initial advice by telephone or interview (where practicable), legal aid will be applied for where applicable and even if legal is refused the Criminal Law Solicitor will charge in accordance with the Legal Aid rates.
